THE SOUND OF SWINGING
the rules : use found objects to make a sound installation. play.
as demonstrated by my daughter.
installation is my most passionate work. building a nuanced effect on an environment. producing a site specific or time based piece challenges me to think about art as an event rather than a product. the work is both intellectually concept based & ultimately intended to affect a sense or feeling. working in various mediums allows me to integrate into a space working with the natural nuances. sensory is one of our greatest assets. the effect it has on memory is a powerful outlet for art to audience. being attentive to sound has always been a large part of my reality. i hear music in every environment. relaxation and meditation are also important to my daily practice, play, laughter and innocent moments of joy. creating a swing that is also an instrument was a way for me to bring my experience with the outside world into a gallery context. i believe that music is one of the healing forces of the universe. being able to offer an installation that is open to audience participation, a space to play, is a way for me to transmute that feeling of being connected to the freedom of a moment and at once the creator.
